Ipswich YM Hawks under-15s ensured they got their New Year off to a flyer with a 55-7 victory in the Suffolk Plate final.
Playing against their Southwold counterparts, the YM youngsters enjoyed home advantage on a beautiful winter’s morning.
The YM forwards were in rampaging form and their fleet-footed three quarters created a sustained flow of opportunities to create a 34-0 scoreline at half time.
This provided the YM Hawks with a strong platform from which to push on for victory.
The YM coaches used all seven substitutes in the second half and their seamless integration provided an equally dominant performance with YM eventually running out 55-7 winners.
The best of the ten tries was scored by Lyam Thorpe who ran from inside his own 22 to score YM’s ninth try.
YM head coach Stu Hudson said: “This was an excellent squad performance in winning such an important match.”
