Mikael Mandron broke the deadlock after just four minutes, with his eighth goal of the season, to send Colchester United on their way to an impressive 2-0 victory at Crawley Town this afternoon.

The U’s are up to fifth in the League Two table, and are now just one point adrift of the automatic promotion zone, on the back of a terrific run of just two defeats in 16 matches.

And that’s where Mandron wants the U’s to end up – in the top three.

“We want to get promotion. We’re looking to get into the top three, and then see what happens,” enthused Mandron.

“We all feel good. It feels great to keep winning games and to keep this excellent form going.

“I scored early, and that really helps – it helps the team settle down.”

Mandron’s strike-force partner, Sammie Szmodics, doubled the U’s lead in the 57th minute to seal victory in West Sussex. It was his 12th goal of the campaign.
