JAMES Heathcote is likely to go straight into the Ipswich Wanderers squad for tomorrow’s LB Group Suffolk Senior Cup first round tie at home to Old Newton United after signing from Debenham LC.

Ipswich Wanderers manager Glenn Read has bolstered the club’s attacking options with the signing of the experienced striker from their Thurlow Nunn Division One rivals.

Heathcote has already made a flying start to the season after netting five times from seven league games this season, including the winning goal in Debenham’s 2-1 win over Halstead Town last weekend.

The forward, who has also been top scorer for the Hornets in the past two seasons, is the latest new recruit to be snapped up by Wanderers as they look to push on up the Division One table.

On the new signing, Wanderers chairman Terry Fenwick said: “We’re delighted to welcome James to the Doucy. He’s a proven goalscorer at this level, so gives Glenn even more attacking options to help move our club up the table.”

Wanderers are up in to seventh place in the Thurlow Nunn League Division One table, with back-to-back wins this week against Cornard United and Debenham LC putting Read’s side back within three points of the promotion places.

Tomorrow’s Suffolk Senior Cup first round tie at home to Touchline SIL Senior Division side Old Newton United kics-off at 2.15pm.

Meanwhile, Debenham LC have announced that first-team assistant manager Jason Pettit has stepped up to be joint first-team manager along with Dale Vince.

The club have also signed David Lampshire from SIL side Old Newton.
