JAMIE Guy has become the latest in a succession of Colchester United players to sign a new improved and extended contract.

Front-runner Guy will be looking to progress from an impact substitute to a regular member of the starting XI this season.

He still had a year to run on his old contract, but has followed in the footsteps of team-mates John White, George Elokobi, Dean Gerken, Karl Duguid and Kevin Watson by signing an extended deal.

Guy was mostly employed as a substitute during the U's first season in the Championship last term, although he did contribute three goals. He netted in the defeats at West Brom and Coventry, and the 3-1 home win over Cardiff.

The Barking-born striker, who celebrates his 20th birthday tomorrow, will be looking to force his way into the senior XI following the summer departures of Chris Iwelumo, Jamie Cureton and Richard Garcia.
