Jeffers was on loan at Ipswich at the end of last season, scoring four goals.
The Owls are in desperate need of firepower after Steve MacLean left for Cardiff, David Graham is now at Gillingham and Deon Burton is struggling to be fit for the season's opener against Town at Portman Road on Saturday with a knee injury.
