KEM Izzet has unveiled the details of his long-awaited Testimonal, and it is a mouth-watering prospect.

Colchester United are bringing together three of their promotion-winning teams of the last two decades, to mark Izzet’s terrific service to the Essex club.

In addition, England striker Jermain Defoe is set to attend as one of several high-profile celebrity players, and play on the Weston Homes Community Stadium pitch for Phil Parkinson’s Celebrity XI.

Izzet’s Testimonial extravaganza will be staged on Saturday, May 12, and will feature two games.

Firstly, a “Boys of 92” team will take on a “Men of 98” team, the latter to be led by current Bury Town boss Richard Wilkins.

The U’s won promotion back to the Football League in 1992, with Roy McDonough at the helm, and secured promotion to the third tier via the play-offs in 1998.

The second game will be between Colchester United and Phil Parkinson’s Celebrity XI, which will include many players from that promotion-winning squad to the Championship (2005-06), and a few guest celebrity footballers.

Tickets will be priced at just 10 for adults, and 5 for both juniors (up to 16) and over-65s. It will be just 2 for up to eight-year-olds.

“The select XI will consist of some of the players from the promotion winning squad, and some celebrities,” enthused Izzet this morning.

“My brother (Muzzy Izzet) is going to be playing, and I’ve been told that Jermaine Defoe is going to play for 15 minutes.

“Jermain has got a game the next day, but he has said that he will be playing for 15 minutes.”
