The likes of John McGreal, Teddy Sheringham, David Wright, Kem Izzet and Danny Cowley are the bookmakers’ favourites for the vacant Colchester United job, following the departure of Kevin Keen yesterday.

Keen surprisingly left the Weston Homes Community Stadium yesterday after just 127 days in charge, following the club’s relegation from League One on Saturday.

David Wright has been put in temporary charge of the first team while chairman Robbie Cowling looks for Keen’s successor, with former Ipswich defender and current Colchester coach McGreal the favourite with the bookmakers at 11/10.

Sheringham, who played for Colchester in 2007/08 and was sacked by Stevenage earlier this season, is second favourite at 7/4, with Danny Cowley priced at 11/2 following a magical season with National League promotion hopefuls Braintree.

The likes of Ipswich Town Under 21 manager Mark Kennedy, former Brentford boss Andy Scott, Kit Symons, Ipswich legend Terry Butcher, Graham Westley, Izzet and former manager Tonny Humes also appear on SkyBet’s shortlist.
