Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Josh Emmanuel and Kieffer Moore are set to join League One side Rotherham United on loan and that there could be further departures from Portman Road in the coming weeks.

Emmanuel and Moore both featured in this afternoon’s 5-0 friendly win at Irish side Drogheda United, Moore scoring with a second half header, but are close to joining the recently-relegated Millers.

Towering striker Moore – who joined Town in a £10k deal from non-league club Forest Green Rovers back in January – and teenage right-back Emmanuel – who started 11 league games last season – were offered to Rotherham as part of a bid for striker Danny Ward recently. Ward decided to join Cardiff, but Millers boss Paul Warne has reprised his interest in Town’s duo.

“He’s probably going to go out on loan to Rotherham,” said McCarthy, when asked about Moore. “They are probably going to take Josh Emmanuel as well.

“They both need to play games. I don’t want Josh here as a substitute coming on and playing a bit part, he needs to go and play to improve, as does Kieffer.

“Neither of them will start in front of (Jordan) Spence or whoever is playing up front. It’s really important for them to get football.

“We’ve got a break clause in January. Hopefully they are ripping it up by then and we want them back. The only way they are going to get better is by playing. I’ll only bring them back if I’m going to play them.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Bru did not travel as part of the Blues party that has spent the last week training at Carton House just outside of Dublin and has been put on the transfer list, while it’s understood that Brett Pitman could move on.

On the absence of midfielder Bru at United Park, McCarthy said: “He was injured, but if he can get a club then yes, he can move.”

With Emyr Huws (Cardiff, £1m), Joe Garner (Rangers, £750k), Bersant Celina (Man City, loan) and Tom Adeyemi (Cardiff, free) signed this summer, will there be more additions on the way?

“We’ll see,” said McCarthy. “It depends whether we lose anybody. I’d really like to have a really solid squad and I think we are getting there. We might lose some, so we’re still looking.”

Having said that a player might be on the way last week, McCarthy was asked for an update on that situation. He replied: “No, there’s not progress on that at the moment. We’ll wait until we get back and see if it goes any further.”
