Stowmarket’s Katherine Rednall, 19, won the national women’s singles title on Sunday, becoming the youngest player to do so, when she overwhelmed Lincoln’s Penny Strong, 21-6, in a one-sided final.

“That was the one I wanted to win,” said Rednall, who skipped her mother Christine and friend, Anna Chalk to the Triples title on Wednesday.

A disappointed Strong, the runner-up in 1981, said: “The carpet seemed to be a different pace from yesterday, and I just couldn’t find the length. But Katherine played brilliantly.”
