Young Ipswich Town goalkeeper Michael Crowe has joined Stevenage on loan until January 10.

The 19-year-old, who spent time with Woking last season, will train with Teddy Sheringham’s side for the first time tomorrow and could feature in the League Two side’s clash with Morecambe on Saturday.

He has also been given permission to play in the FA Cup.

Crowe is the third Town player to leave temporarily this week, following James Alabi’s switch to Conference National side Grimsby and Luke Hyam’s move to fellow Championship outfit Rotherham.

Stevenage are currently 20th in the fourth tier. Last weekend, in the 2-1 loss at Bristol Rovers, 40-year-old Chris Day started in goal for the Hertfordshire club.

Crowe, who is 6ft 7in tall, was born in London, grew up in Norway and joined Town from IK Start in the summer of 2012.

Due to the fact he has a Welsh grandfather, the young keeper was called up to the Wales Under-19 squad by former Town player Geraint Williams in April 2013.

“I spoke to Teddy Sheringham and he said that he wants Michale to compete for a place and that there is no promises of him getting in,” said Blues boss Mick McCarthy.

“I’ve just said to Michael ‘go there, be their best keeper, get in and stay in – don’t go and make up the numbers’.
