Kem Izzet is set to move into football management after leading Needham Market to silverware in his final game for The Marketmen.

Izzet captained Needham to Suffolk Premier Cup success on Monday evening, after defeating Lowestoft Town 3-2, and revealed afterwards that management will be his next step, with his appointment set to be announced later this week.

“It’s been a good four years (at Needham),” said the 36-year-old, who joined the non-league club in the summer of 2013 after playing 13 seasons professionally for Colchester United.

“I’ve enjoyed every bit of it, but it’s a new chapter now and it’s time for me and the club to move on.

“I’m happy with the job I’ve done and I’m sure Mark (Morsley, who took charge of Needham for the final time on Monday) is happy with the job he’s done.

“The club are in a lot better and stronger position than they were four years ago so it’s a great time to leave.”

In his time at Needham, Izzet’s highlights include captaining the side while winning the Ryman North Division (2014/15), before then helping them push for the Ryman Premier play-offs in 2016/17, all under the influence of a man he has a lot of respect for.

“What Mark (Morsley) has done for the club is amazing,” continued Izzet. “He got me here and he’s built this club before stepping upstairs and leaving it in a really strong place.

“It’s now time for Richard Wilkins (next season’s first-team manager), Tom Rothery (head coach) and the rest of the squad to push on and see what they can achieve.”

Izzet is also keen to keep achieving in football, in what will soon be a new challenge for him - football management.

“I’ll be in a player-manager role (next season), and I’ve wanted to be a manager now for the best part of two years,” revealed Izzet.

“It’ll be announced later this week (where Izzet goes), and it’ll be a new challenge for me.

“I think it’s the right time to step into management. While you are a player, you learn how you want to do things and how you don’t want to do things in every aspect.

“I’ve learnt that while I was at Colchester in the Football League and with Needham in non-league.”
