PETERBOROUGH Speedway are delighted to announce that Danish International Kenneth Bjerre will be back to lead the team again for the forthcoming season.

Bjerre’s 2012 campaign was cut short by a broken leg whilst competing for the Readypower Panthers in an August home fixture against King’s Lynn, but he has this week finally been given clearance by doctors to get back on a bike again - allowing the club to firm-up their top-order plans for the season ahead.

Before the untimely crash last year the 28-year-old was just starting to find his best form again after experiencing a difficult spell in his Grand Prix and domestic racing.

In fact his last full match in Panthers colours was a 15-point maximum in a thumping 55-38 home victory against eventual Elite League Champions, Swindon.

He makes a welcome return to the Showground on an 8.18 average.

Panthers co-boss Jan Staechmann said: “Kenneth was yesterday (Thursday) given the green light from the doctors regarding his fitness, and the leg which he fractured in three places at the end of last season is healed.

“We were delighted to receive that call from Kenneth to tell us that he will be ready for the start of the season, and we have wasted no time in doing a deal with him to resume racing at Peterborough come March.

“He will once again line up in the number 1 racesuit, and will continue as captain of the club.

“After all the speculation over the winter I am over the moon to have Kenneth in the team, and I have no doubt he will be out to prove a few people wrong once the tapes go up in March.

“By his own high-standards Kenneth had a year to forget last season, and he still managed to finished top of the averages.

“Form is temporary, and class is permanent. KB has class written all over him, and I look very much forward to working closely with him and the team.

“Kenneth has lots of ambition, and I am sure the hunger of not being in the GP next season will spur him on a great deal.”

Bjerre himself added: “This will be my seventh season with the Panthers and I am really looking forward to having a good year, and put 2012 well and truly behind me.”

Panthers owner Julie Mahoney commented: “It was wonderful to get the phone call from Kenneth on Thursday afternoon to say the hospital had finally given him the green light to get back on a bike again. We’ve always had to make plans to cover all eventualities, but we’re delighted that Kenneth will be back with us this season.

“He’s a great rider and captain and is also very popular with our supporters.”
