Moore, who made 11 substitute appearances for the Blues totalling just 146 minutes, joined Championship rivals Barnsley on Monday for a fee believed to be close to £750,000. His former club Forest Green are due a small sell-on clause, believed to be 10 per cent of the profit made following his £20,000 move to Portman Road a year ago.

He scored 13 goals during a highly productive loan spell with Rotherham, which sparked a League One bidding war, and is now looking to make the grade at Championship level after being allowed to leave Portman Road.

“Me being me, I always believe I’ve got something to prove,” Moore said.

“Every time I step on the pitch I am proving people wrong and that’s the way I am, I always want to have that chip on my shoulder.

“I’ve had it everywhere I’ve been and I’ve grown used to it and kind of liked it.

“I’m used to people doubting me and that just gives me more energy to prove them wrong. I’ve had that everywhere.

“You have to take the positives out of everything but there’s nothing better than showing someone they were wrong about you and showing them you can do it if you work hard enough.”

The Blues recalled Moore from his loan spell at Rotherham and he returned to train with the club last week, with McCarthy insisting the striker’s head was not in the right place as clubs scrambled to try and sign him.

“I do think, after he trained with us yesterday, that his head’s not really here. That’s for certain,” McCarthy said last Friday.

The Blues boss continued: “He was hardly well-liked or loved – I remember the crowd cheering when he headed a ball at one stage when he was here.

“But he’s gone and improved and had a great time at Rotherham where he’s much more loved and revered, that’s for sure.

“I could tell yesterday when he trained that, with so much interest in him, his head was elsewhere and he will probably end up elsewhere.”
