STRICKEN former Ipswich speedway rider Kim Jansson has written a special Christmas message to Witches fans - thanking them for helping him through a traumatic time.

The 27-year-old Swede, who was left paralysed after a crash in his home country, said: “I have written a special seasonal message to the wonderful Witches fans, with a request that it can be published in the Evening Star on Christmas Eve.”

Jansson has retained his sense of humour despite having to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Ho ho it's Christmas time again and this year my priority is not 100% on Christmas.

At the moment so many changes are taking place in my life.

It is now four months since I had the accident that ended my speedway career.

After three months in hospital and rehabilitation I am now at home with my parents until my new flat is ready for me in February.

Now speedway is in my past I have decided to go to university and study for a degree in civil engineering, which has always been an interest of mine.

I will also be doing a course in history at the same time.

Now I am ready with school bag and apple to take on this new challenge!

I will also be having a go at go kart racing as a friend has bought me a kart and challenged me to take up the sport - I couldn't resist that challenge.

So as you see I intend to live life to the full with lots of new challenges ahead.

I would like to offer my thanks for all the support I have had financially, and the good wishes from everybody from Ipswich and the rest of the country.

This includes the riders, management, staff, friends and family involved with the special meeting staged for me at Foxhall Stadium.

I would like to end by wishing everybody a very happy Christmas and New Year and hope to be over to visit Ipswich in 2009 - when they will let me fly.

Love Kim xx
