COLCHESTER United boss Paul Lambert singled out Marc Tierney for his terrific goal-line clearance as the U's cruised to a 2-0 win at Carlisle.

Already ahead thanks to Danny Livesey's 11th minute opening goal, the U's protected their lead by the skin of their teeth when Tierney cleared spectacularly off the goal-line after Cleveland Taylor's shot had hit the bar.

Left-back Tierney's last ditch intervention happened just before half-time, and the U's went on to make the game safe through David Perkins' strike on 82 minutes.

Lambert enthused: “Marc Tierney's clearance was phenomenal! He has been a colossal figure since he has been here, and he's only going to get better and better.

“It looked a goal all the way, but he managed to get the ball away. That was a great example of us defending for our lives.

“The whole team is playing exceptionally well at the moment, and we are on a terrific run. I thought we thoroughly deserved this win.

“We got at Carlisle right from the start, even though this is a difficult place to come. The first goal was an own goal, but give Lewis Gobern credit for a great cross into the box that was a difficult one for the defender to defend.

“And our second was brilliant football, from one wing to the other. It's a big, big ask to keep winning, but the games are coming thick and fast.

“I don't know if we'll be signing anyone else before the transfer deadline. I'll be trying, but I'm not going to waste the chairman's money for the sake of it,” confirmed Lambert.
