BURY Town winger Danny Cunningham has joined Ryman League Premier Division rivals Lowestoft Town on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old rejoined Bury last season from Leiston, and scored 13 goals in 37 appearances.

Bury boss Richard Wilkins, who has released centre half Roscoe Hipperson, said: “We offered Danny a deal, but he wanted to look around and he has got a much better offer from elsewhere, but that is the way it goes. There is no animosity and we wish him well.

“There is no questioning his footballing ability. He is as good as anything at this level and should be playing higher. But he struggles to control his frustration at times and his lack of discipline gets him into trouble.”

Cunningham follows former King’s Lynn striker Jack Defty in joining the Trawlerboys, following the departure of Matt Nolan.

Meanwhile, Needham Market manager Danny Laws said the capture of Nathan Clarke is a “significant signing” for the club.

The AFC Sudbury defender, who won both the players’ and supporters’ player of the year awards last season, has joined their Ryman League Division One North rivals.

Clarke joins Bradley Barber, Darcy De’Ath, James Evans, Ollie Fenn and Duane Wright in committing themselves to Needham for next season alongside strikers Sam Newson and Danny Bloomfield, who are under contract until May 2013.

However, Angelo Harrop, Scott Chaplin and Deakan Napier are leaving the Bloomfields outfit.

Laws said: “We only met with the players for the first time since the end of the season on Saturday, and are hoping to put a strong squad together again next season. We have already added one significant singing with the addition of Nathan Clarke.

“The three lads who are leaving have not been released, but have all decided to move on by mutual consent and go with our best wishes. All three are great lads and I can’t speak highly enough of them.”

Leiston defender Mark Goldfinch has agreed to join Hadleigh United on a permanent basis after spending the latter part of last season on loan at the club.

The 30-year-old old put in some outstanding displays whilst on loan at the Millfield and after turning down an offer from AFC Sudbury this week he agreed to sign for the Eastern Counties League Premier Division side last night.

Hadleigh manager Stuart Crawford said: “Without doubt this is a major signing for us. Mark completely changed our side during his loan spell and formed a great partnership with Mark Gaisford. In the two seasons I have been in charge our biggest problem has been giving cheap, silly goals away and the stats have backed that up.

“Any team that has ambitions to win leagues must have a tight defence and I now believe we have that. In Gaisford, Goldfinch, Chris Rose and the returning Paul Donnelly we have four superb defenders for this level of football. Mark has turned down a very good offer from Sudbury, far more financially than is on offer here, and, to be honest, when I heard they had approached him I thought that was it for us, so I’m chuffed to see him commit.

“I think location played a factor for him, also he played well here and knows we have a good chance to have a successful season. We are in talks with other players and hope to make at least two more signings before pre-season games, hopefully one being another striker.”
