CYCLE racing in the region has had boost with the news that the East Anglian Daily Times is to continue to sponsor the popular Eastern Cyclo-Cross League for another three years.

The league, which draws riders from all over the eastern counties, runs events for Under-12, youth, junior, senior, women and veteran racers in a season which runs from September to February. Fields for the races have grown through the years and the Norwich ABC November Cross at Eccles attracted 134 entrants, a league record.

Chris Gooch, chairman of the league, thanked the EADT for its renewed sponsorship. “We are very grateful for the support of the EADT and the publicity it gives us. We do very well for a fairly small scale sport!”

EADT deputy editor Dominic Castle, himself a recent recruit to cyclo-cross, said that the EADT was pleased to be involved with the league and looking forward to seeing it grow over the next three years.

“It is a great sport at all levels of ability, from rank beginner to serious racer. But one of the best things about it is that it is one of the friendliest sports around and very family-oriented.”

The final curtain fell on this season on Sunday with the last event of the year, a Madison (pairs) race hosted by Mildenhall Cycling Club.
