Leiston head to Dorking tomorrow looking for more FA Trophy glory.

The Victory Road Blues had one of their most impressive results of the season so far in the last round when they beat Folkestone on penalties, with a thread-bare squad.

At the time, manager Glenn Driver called it his ‘best result as a manager, ever’ as the Suffolk side booked their place in tomorrow’s Second Qualifying Round.

Having already doubled Dorking in the Bostik Premier this season, the Blues travel to Surrey in confident mood, with a few fresh bodies on board to help proceedings.

“Our result in that last round was awesome,” Driver said.

“To get what we did with such a young team at Folkestone was unbelievable. But now we have another tough test.

“The fact we have doubled Dorking means they will be very much up for it to turn us over.

“But we have a few bodies back, Christy Finch, Robert Eagle and Jack Ainsley.

“It helps with the self-belief when you have players back in your squad. Our younger guys have done superb for us though and showed they are up for the challenge of this league.”

Leiston’s current league form is not the best right now.

Just one win in seven has seen Driver’s team drop from top to seventh place in a fiercely competitive Bostik Premier.

“We have been a bit light with so many injuries and it’s an unforgiving league, as anyone who watches it will tell you,” Driver said.

“But we go to Dorking confident and we have a week off next week which is just what we need to get a few niggles sorted and a couple more players back to full fitness.”

Meanwhile, Kelsey Trotter has returned to Leiston.

The former Blues man, who has been playing for Woodbridge in the Thurlow Nunn First Division, turned out for Leiston at Harlow on a dual registration this week.

Now he has left Woodbridge and signed permanently for Leiston.

“I want to thank Jamie Scales and everyone at Woodbridge for allowing Kelsey to move to us,” Driver said.

“Bearing in mind they are going for the title in Thurlow One, their professionalism in allowing an important player for them to move back up the pyramid was a credit to everyone at that club.”
