The push for a Bostik Premier Division play-off place continues tomorrow afternoon, with Leiston still in sixth place going into the match, writes Craig Cooper.

Just one point separates fourth-placed Hendon from seventh-placed Leatherhead, while Staines Town remain further back and are five points off the top five.

It promises to be an exciting finish, with the Blues hosting Needham Market on Tuesday and Hendon next Saturday in their remaining matches.

“Saturday is a massive game,” boss Glenn Driver said.

“Leatherhead are a very good side and will make it tough for us, but we go there full of confidence as we are playing some good stuff and scoring some great goals, as well as being solid at the back.

“The results over the last couple of weeks have gone for us and our play-off hopes are now in our own hands.

“The players have been excellent all season and I want this for them and everyone connected with our football club.”

Dulwich Hamlet beat Leatherhead 1-0 on Wednesday evening thanks to a last-minute goal from substitute Anthony Acheampong meaning Leiston remain above Leatherhead on goal difference.

Billericay Town and Dulwich are battling it out for the title, while Folkestone it seems have sealed third spot.

Hendon, Leiston and Leatherhead all have a game in hand on Margate.

“Last weekend, we passed last season’s points tally of 73, so I feel as though myself and TK (Tony Kinsella) have taken the team forward once again,” Driver added.

“If we reach the play-offs we are aware it will be an unreal achievement.”

However, Leiston have never won at Leatherhead. They have lost two and drawn one. Last season, Leiston were 3-1 up but Leatherhead scored two injury-time goals to gain a point. Earlier this season at Victory Road, Matt Blake gave Leiston the lead but Tom Derry and Sammy Moore netted to seal the Surrey side the win.

Driver will welcome back Robert Eagle and Blake into the squad for the match, after they were called back from loan spells at Lowestoft Town and Norwich United.

Meanwhile Leiston Reserves host King’s Lynn Reserves this afternoon after going down to Framlingham Town 3-2 on Thursday night.

Leiston U18s won the U18 Thurlow Nunn Central League title on Thursday evening.
