Leiston avoided a potential banana-skin as they won 3-1 at Evo-Stik South side Aylesbury, to progress in the FA Cup, on Saturday afternoon.

Glen Driver’s Blues went 3-0 ahead in the First Qualifying Round tie, thanks to goals from Byron Lawrence, Dominic Docherty and Seb Dunbar, before Jonny Montgomery pulled a goal back with just over 15 minutes to go, to set up a nervy finish to the game.

Montgomery was then pulled back by midfielder Docherty, as he looked to break through, the Leiston man receiving his marching orders.

Needham Market also made it past the First Qualifying Round with a comfortable 3-0 win at Clapton.

Goals from Gareth Heath, Luke Ingram and Callum Harrison ensured Richard Wilkins’s side progressed into the hat for the next round.

Lowestoft Town cruised into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup as an own goal and a fine individual strike from Travis Cole downed hosts Bedford Town.

Haverhill Borough crashed out of the FA Cup at the first qualifying round stage, as Evo-Stik Southern League Premier side, King’s Langley scored eight at the New Croft without reply.

Thurlow Nunn Premier Division outfit, Haverhill squandered some early chances to go ahead and the visitors never looked back from that point, four goals in a 15-minute period before the break, ending the game as a contest.

Kieran Turner opened the scoring after 29 minutes, with Gareth Price breaking the offside trap and adding a second two minutes later. Mitchell Weiss netted a third from a corner and then Turner scored a fourth with a beautifully curled shot deep into first half injury-time.

Price added his second just after the break, before Weiss doubled his tally with a powerful finish from the edge of the box.

Steve Ward completed the scoring with a quick-fire double, one a penalty, the visitors prevailing in comprehensive and ruthless fashion.

Each team progressing from the first round of the competition netted £3,000 in prize money.
