Leiston stretched their unbeaten run to seven games and recorded a fourth successive victory in the Bostik Premier as they defeated fellow play-off hopefuls Staines Town 4-1 on the road.

Manager Glen Driver made one enforced change from Tuesday’s win over Tonbridge as Kyle Hammond was unavailable and he was replaced by Joe Marsden.

The visitors got off to the best possible start as they were awarded a penalty after just 52 seconds after Jake Reed was fouled in the box, Jack Ainsley converting the resultant spot kick.

Marcus Garnham saved well from Buchanan in the seventh minute after the ball bounced back to him in the six yard box.

On 16 minutes Darren Mills added an excellent second, his strike from outside the box striking both posts before finding the net.

Garnham thwarted the hosts with some fine saves but he was powerless to keep out Lewis Driver’s effort just before half-time.

Man of the match Reed added the third, his fourth goal in five games, when he showed great persistence to force the ball home from close range. Two minutes later Chris Henderson forced home custodian Hudnott to produce a fantastic save to stop Leiston scoring their fourth, but they were not to be denied as substitute Patrick Brothers completed the scoring eight minutes from time, converting after Henderson’s shot was parried.

This was a fantastic away win for the Blues, who moved up to sixth spot and only sit outside the play-offs on goal difference with seven games remaining.

Elsewhere in the Premier, struggling Lowestoft Town went down 2-1 at home to Burgess Hill Town, Cole netting a late consolation.

In the Bostik North, Bury Town enjoyed a fine 2-0 win at Essex rivals Maldon & Tiptree, as man of the match Jack Lankester fired them ahead after just six minutes. Leading scorer Cemal Ramadan sealed the win in the 87th minute.

AFC Sudbury returned from a trip to Romford with a point after a 1-1 draw, Phil Kelly netting for the Suffolk side.

Finally, Mildenhall Town were beaten 2-0 at home by Barking.
