LIVERPOOL boss Rafa Benitez has made a �2million bid on a centre back to further bolster his defence.

Sotiris Kyrgiakos, currently residing at Super League Greece side AEK Athens, is being followed by the Reds' in a deal that could extend to �30,000 a week. Benitez hopes to sign up a contract in the next couple of days.

The 30-year-old is not unfamiliar to British football having played for SPL club Rangers in the 2005-06 season, claiming the League Cup double in his first season. He has also represented Greece on the international stage, scoring four goals in 49 appearances.

Kyrgiakos says he is relishing the new challenge but the decision will not come easy for him: "This was the biggest challenge of my career. I'm sad to be leaving but Liverpool is one of the greatest clubs in Europe. I can't wait to start."
