Ipswich ‘Sackers’ Witches director of speedway Chris Louis admits to being pretty happy with his side’s start to the new speedway season.

The Witches were set to head west tonight for a Premier League fixture against the Plymouth Devils, fresh from a fine weekend in the north-east where they picked up three points against Berwick and Newcastle.

But the Plymouth meeting was called off early in the day with rain forecast and an already wet track.

A home defeat to the Diamonds last week and a knock-out cup exit to Workington have dampened things slightly for the Witches, but Louis is happy with the start his team has made.

“Obviously it’s early days in the Premier League and I would rather still be in the knock-out up,” admitted Louis.

“But we are in the League Cup semi-finals which is good and although we lost to Newcastle in the League, I don’t think any club will have an unbeaten home League record this season.

“Already Somerset have lost a home meeting, as have Edinburgh, Newcastle have dropped points to us and we have lost one as well.

“It’s a very tough league again this season, but overall I’m happy with the way we have started.”
