HARD-HITTING duo Ben Evans and Billy Innes notched victories for Lowestoft ABC at Kingfisher ABC’s first dinner of the season.

Welterweight Evans took on Norwich City ABC’s Ryan Hendry, while 18-year-old middleweight, Innes, got the better of Hendry’s team-mate, Hugh Bower.

Evans won on a majority points decision, despite a strong start from the stocky Hendry, who came out looking to overwhelm the Suffolk man in the first round, throwing combinations from all angles.

Before the end of the first, however, Evans had his opponent on the back-foot and counter-punched sharply to keep the Norwich boxer in check.

The second round saw Evans move straight onto the attack, throwing hard-hitting left and right crosses that once again had Hendry on the retreat.

The Lowestoft puncher slowly took control of the bout and stepped up the pace in the final round, despite Hendry fighting back, and put the Norwich boxer on the floor for an eight-count.

Before he could capitalise the bell ended the contest, which Ben won on a majority points decision.

Innes, meanwhile, took control of the first round, punching behind his accurate left jab and showing good defensive work when 23-year-old Bowers countered.

In the second round, Innes began to warm to his task, getting in close for body shots, then moving on to the outside – counter punching as the City boxer tried to draw him in.

Bower had to take the lead in the last round and tried out-punching Innes.

As the Lowestoft boxer moved in, the Norwich boxer let go with some very fast combinations to Innes’ body and head. However most were blocked, slipped or parried and countered.

When the final bell was rang, Innes’ hand was raised to end a very entertaining senior contest.

No opponents were found to match Cameron and Reese Wade or Lee Casey.
