Martin and Acock Norfolk Women’s League
Premier Division
Magpies III 1 Magpies IV 0
FOLLOWING a good result in their friendly away to Broadland last week, Magpies IV faced Magpies III in a 2.15pm push back at Weybread for their first match in the Norfolk Premier Division. Undoubtedly it was going to be a tough and hard-fought match for both sides.
The fourths, as the “away” team lined up in the red away strip and made a good start to the match, forcing the thirds ‘keeper to make a couple of good saves. But as the half wore on, the two sides were relatively evenly matched, the thirds winning a short corner but unable to trouble the fourths ‘keeper.
The second half saw the thirds make the more positive, attacking start, and 10 minutes in they broke the deadlock and went a goal up following two consecutive short corners. The fourths pressed forward to find the equaliser but couldn’t get the ball past the thirds ‘keeper, and the score stayed at 1-0.
Obviously a disappointing result for the fourths but they must take heart from their battling first-match performance with a much-changed team, and with the rest of the season ahead of them, there is all to play for!
