Magpies IV 3 Old Buckenham II 1

MAGPIES, after a three-week break due to postponements, started slowly by their standards, with the first 10 minutes of play evenly contested, each team trying to gain some momentum.

Magpies found their rhythm first and took the early initiative, playing the ball up into their attacking third, winning several short corners and forcing the Old Buckenham 'keeper to make some quality saves. The breakthrough came when the ball found Kay Dennis on the edge of the D, she executed a sharp turn and fired the ball into the corner of the goal giving the home side the lead. Shortly afterwards Magpies doubled their advantage, left midfielder Zoe Cole well-positioned in the D to slot home, her first goal of the season and much deserved. Magpies continued to dominate the play but the score remained at 2-0 going into half time.

The second half saw Old Buckenham have more possession, but the Magpies' defence stayed strong, Becky Ford in particular making some crucial interceptions and then making some good runs forward to support the attacking play. A lovely move from the forwards gave Magpies their third goal, Beth Alexander passing to Kay Dennis, who played it to Rachel Clifford who put the ball away. The home side started to tire towards the end, with Old Buckenham pushing forward, winning three consecutive short corners, and thus scoring a late consolation goal.

A brilliant result for Magpies after a considerable amount of time off the pitch, well done to all 11 players who worked tirelessly until the final whistle. Now onto next week!
