MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider Howie Mainwaring will miss this weekend’s final superbike round of the season, at Brands Hatch this weekend, after breaking his back in a motocross practice crash

The National Superstock rider, who is fifth in the series, is a keen motocrosser and uses the sport for fitness and race craft.

The 24-year-old crashed heavily on Sunday, breaking his L2 and L3 vertebrae and will be operated on today before undergoing recuperation at Ipswich Hospital.

The last round at Silverstone saw Mainwaring storm through from 18th on the grid to lead the race before finishing up third. He enjoyed a fantastic race win at his previous outing at Brands Hatch in August.
