AFC Sudbury boss Mark Morsley has hit out at ‘negative’ Sudbury fans, a minority he says who have even resorted to booing some of their own players.

The former Leiston and Needham Market boss, who took over the hot-seat earlier this season at King’s Marsh, has been left annoyed by the antics of a few supporters as he looks to put together a team he feels will take the club forward.

‘Journeymen non-league players’ also come under fire from Morsley in a no-holds barred tirade.

“I am acutely aware that some of the decisions on players I have made have not been welcomed,” he said.

“Everyone has their opinions and I respect those of our supporters. But I was brought into this club to point the first team in the right direction and I can say that I will do it my way.

“I have experience in building teams and that has been entrusted to me here and it is one that I relish.

“I have heard moans and groans from a small collection of our very negative followers about players and performances.

“Firstly, I describe those not as supporters because real supporters back the team through thick and thin.

“I have heard some of our players booed and I think it’s a disgrace. There are no players in my building who go out on the pitch to deliberately have a bad game so if they are struggling then they need lifting not slating.

“I really feel that it would have been madness not to have looked closely at the outstanding footballing ability we have within the Academy. That is something I have done and will continue to do throughout this season and going forward.”

AFC Sudbury entertain Norwich United at King’s Marsh on Saturday.

With just one win in 10 games, it has been an up and down period for Sudbury and a frustrating one not just for Morsley and his coaching staff, but for the fans also.

Something the manager does understand.

“It is true that we have had inconsistent performances as players develop the stamina and get up to speed at this level and that is normal,” Morsley said.

“Am I concerned? No not in the slightest because this is a key part of the building process that I am working on.

“The days of throwing good money after journeymen non-league footballers are gone as I build a team with the right attitude, the right abilities and the right age, I know we will have an exciting future.”
