AFC Sudbury boss Mark Morsley takes his place in the hot seat at King’s Marsh Stadium on Saturday for the first time since he left the club 10 years ago.

Morsley, who was last at the helm with the team back in 2007, was the shock appointment at the west Suffolk club earlier this week, taking over as first-team boss from Jamie Godbold, who left the club two weeks ago.

Morsley watched his new side draw 1-1 with Maldon & Tiptree on Tuesday night, Saturday is his first match back in charge, with Southern League Division One Aylesbury United the opposition in the FA Trophy Preliminary round.

It’s been a hectic start to life back at King’s Marsh Stadium for Morsley.

“Yep, it’s been a mad week,” he said.

“After resigning at Needham on Monday, my feet have hardly touched the ground.

“I saw Tuesday night’s match against Maldon, then an U19’s game on Wednesday afternoon, the FA Youth Cup and training last night, team selection and staff debrief today, somewhere in that lot I’ve got my day job!”

There is no doubt Morsley will like the challenge on offer to him, with Sudbury now up to 16th place in Bostik North after a good recent run of form. The play-offs however are still a way off.

“This job is one that I am relishing,” he said.

“There are many things that are right at the club but it has to be the first-team that drives everything and maybe that has not happened in recent years.

“However, it will be evolution not revolution and I want to be able to assess the current squad and that includes a large number of the Academy Scholars.

“I have to make sure we get things right and stabilise the squad, so we can start producing the sort of performances that get the Sudbury fans coming back week after week.

“The average gates were more than 400 in my previous tenure, although it will take time getting back to that number – but hopefully not too long.”

In Bostik North league action, Mildenhall travel to Hertford this weekend, after a week off for Dean Greygoose’s side last Saturday.

Mildenhall lost their last Bostik North game 6-4 at home to Tilbury on a crazy afternoon at the Rec.

However they can be very satisfied with their start to life at Step 4. They sit mid-table with games in hand on plenty of clubs around them.
