Branca flew to London for talks with Chelsea, who themselves are keen to sign Inter's �20m-rated Brazil right-back Maicon.
Chelsea are demanding a joint fee of �13m for 31-year-old Carvalho and midfield flop Deco, 32, who only moved to Stamford Bridge 12 months ago in an �8m deal.
Inter, managed by former Blues boss Jose Mourinho, are offering defender Nicolas Burdisso as part of the deal.
