MILDENHALL set a new club record when they extended their winning run in Division One of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship to eight matches after seeing off the challenge of fourth-placed Mistley.

They were denied the services of Tymal Mills for the very good reason he was in the Essex team playing against the Sri Lankan tourists at Chelmsford, but still chalked up another good win.

Batting first, they lost Joe Reed after he had hit two boundaries but was then trapped leg before by Kyran Young.

But Ben Shepperson and Alex Reynolds were quick between the wickets as they build a partnership of 75, when Reynolds was stumped for 27. Shepperson went on to score 71 and with 37 from Chris Baugh and late quick runs from Andy Squire (21) and AJ Warriach (26 not out) the final total rose to 232 for nine.

Spinners Matt Bibby and Stuart Dove took three and four wickets respectively while Young was unfortunate not to add to his single wicket.

Five Mistley batsmen passed 20, but none went on to a half-century as they remained behind the required rate. Young scored 45, and Garwood, who pulled a calf muscle, returned to end on 36 not out, while Stuart Dove cracked 39 off 15 balls to ensure maximum batting points.

Second-placed Wivenhoe had a few worries before taking maximum points from lowly Maldon. They were only able to post a total of 148, and that was thanks mainly to Matt Durrell’s 56.

In reply Ian Elliott threatened to take the game away from them while wickets fell at the other end. Ultimately Elliott was last out with Maldon just 17 runs short, Nathan Rabnott taking five for 29.

Ollie Blackwell cracked 134 as Coggeshall rattled up 295 for six on the way to a 93-run win over Abberton, but Exning only managed 101 at home to Copdock (Deon Carolus five for 20) as they lost by four wickets. Adrian Nel guided the visitors home with 71 not out, while the other Copdock batsmen managed just 24 between them.

Chat Herath scored 57 and Trevor Moulton 42 as Frinton posted 191 for seven, enough for a 37-run win over Haverhill. Scott Webb had taken six for 64, and Simon Youngs was left on 35 not out as Haverhill replied with 154 for eight.

Alex Gooding (five for 65) and Doug Hondo (four for 35) combined to bowl Woolpit out for 195 and Ipswich secured a two-wicket win after 53 from Joe Rusby and 42 from Gooding. John Richardson saw them home with 17 not out.

In Division Two Elmstead Grasshoppers made it eight successive wins as Jordan Elliott scored 95 in a 79-run win over Braintree. Daniel White took five for 44 to curtail Braintree’s reply.

Worlington and Mildenhall II also hold 100% records in Division Three. Brothers Richard (80) and Graham Ford (61 not out) led Worlington to a comfortable seven-wicket win away to Clacton II, while Mildenhall bowled out Halstead II for 136 on their way to a six-wicket win, with Chris Baird scoring 53.

Yoxford lost to Needham Market to be overhauled at the top of Division Four by Long Melford, who surprisingly received a walk-over from Wivenhoe II.
