Mildenhall Town boss Dean Greygoose admits that while it has been a challenging first half of the season for ‘Hall, he’s enjoying life at Recreation Way.

The west Suffolk side travel to Canvey Island on Saturday in what is set to be another tough Bostik North fixture.

Promoted last season from the Thurlow Nunn Premier, Mildenhall started life in their new surroundings at Step 4 impressively, winning four of their first seven league games.

But it has been tough since, despite a superb FA Trophy run.

More recently, however, and since their Trophy departure to Lancaster, things are settling down for Greygoose’s side – they have lost just one in seven league games of late – although only one was a victory.

“It’s a tough league, a relentless league, but I must admit I’m really enjoying it,” Greygoose said.

“Our fans seem to be enjoying it too. Crowds are up and I want our team to excite them.

“Much of the time we have 200+ crowds. The teams we are playing are all tough, no easy fixtures.

“Like many leagues it seems these days, win a couple on the bounce and suddenly you can jump up the table.”

Mildenhall currently sit in 18th position in the 24-strong Bostik North league, 11 points away from bottom teams Romford and Cheshunt – only one team goes down.

It’s a relatively comfortable position for Greygoose’s side. But he wants to finish much higher than 18th.

“I’ve signed quite a few players of late and have a bigger squad, which is good,” he said.

“I would like to see us finish 10th/12th, something like that. There is no reason we can’t.

“We have been on a better run of late, but we have also played a few teams in and around us and not beaten them, just drawn, so that has been frustrating.#

“Obviously a trip to Canvey Island will be another tough challenge – that is what you get in this league.

“But there is no reason we can’t get something out of the game.”

Danny Crow returns to the Mildenhall squad this weekend, which is a big boost for Greygoose.

After Saturday’s clash at Canvey, Mildenhall have three home matches on the bounce.

On Tuesday night they entertain high-flying Maldon & Tiptree, before Aveley and then Witham come to Recreation Way over the next few weeks.
