COLCHESTER United striker David Mooney says he wants to remain at the club beyond January.

The Irishman’s loan deal from Championship club Reading expires at the start of the New Year but he has revealed he would love to stay longer.

Mooney, who has already scored eight goals this season and has been enjoying a thriving strike partnership with Kayode Odejayi of late, said: “I’ve got eight weeks to go and I would like to stay.

“I spoke to the manager (John Ward) a few weeks ago and said if he could do something then I’d certainly be interested in talking.

“I’m not really too interested in anyone else, to be honest. The team are playing well and family members who’ve been to watch have told me we could go really far. There’s no reason why we couldn’t go up and when you hear people talking like that it makes you want to stay.

“My fiance really likes it here and we have an 18-month-old daughter who’s in creche and she’s having a good time there. You don’t want to be moving around all the time.

“Providing Reading don’t want me and things are okay for me personally then Colchester would be my first choice.”
