LEISTON boss Mark Morsley has left the club with immediate effect.

The former Sudbury, Harwich and Needham Market boss, who helped guide the Victory Road side to successive promotions from the Eastern Counties Premier Division into the Ryman Premier Division, has left citing ‘new challenges’ as the reason for his departure.

“I’ve had a brilliant two and a half years,” said Morsley last night.

“I spoke to the chairman (Andy Crisp) about leaving at the end of the season as I wanted new challenges.

“But we agreed it would be best if I went now.

“I’m proud of what we have achieved at Leiston and the club are in a good position now in the Ryman Premier.

“I want to thank all the players, officials and fans for their support in what has been a great few years.”

Leiston chairman Andy Crisp commented: “We are disappointed with Mark leaving and we are disappointed with the timing. We’re on a ten-match unbeaten run and it has all left a few questions unanswered, to be honest.

“But we’ve accepted his decision. As a club we’ve always been true to what we have said we would give him.

“In saying that, we would like to thank Mark for all his efforts at Leiston.

“We are glad to have helped him achieve his goal of Ryman Premier football.”

Lee Norfolk takes over as caretaker boss for the Blues, who were set to entertain Met Police on Saturday.

That game was called off, so the Police team now come to Leiston on Tuesday night, February 5.
