A MOUTHWATERING but tough start to the season is in store for Mildenhall Fen Tigers, after the 2012 fixture list confirmed they’ll open their season against Dudley in the National Shield on Easter Sunday (8th April) at West Row.
That’s followed with the visit of Norfolk neighbours King’s Lynn Young Stars seven days later, as the Tigers begin their defence of the Knock Out Cup.
The opening league fixture this season sees the Buxton Hitmen, led by Robert Branford, visit Suffolk on 29th April. Play-off champions Scunthorpe Saints, who pipped Mildenhall to the league title in a never to be forgotten final at West Row, return on 6th May. Local rivals Rye House Raiders are in town on 27th May a fixture that’s been moved back a week from 20th May.
It’s also been confirmed that the National League Pairs will be staged at West Row on 22nd July.

Among the highlights of the early away fixtures will be the second leg of the National Shield clash at Dudley on 17th April. The first league match will be at Buxton on 22nd April, with the second leg of the KO Cup tie with King’s Lynn scheduled for 2nd May at the Norfolk Arena.
Co-promoter Michael Lee said, “It looks an entertaining but full-on start to the season, but we can’t wait to get going. It would be great to get underway by winning the Shield, but Dudley are an excellent team and although we won there in the league last year, we mustn’t forget they only lost by a point at our place. Likewise Lynn will be hard to beat over two legs in the Cup. They are looking much stronger this year and I know they would love to get one over their old rivals.

“We are aiming to make the NL Pairs a special day for fans from all the country. It’s a huge honour to be asked to stage the meeting and we are determined to make it something people will remember.”
Lee continued, “All in all we want to make it another unforgettable season for everyone connected with the Fen Tigers, especially our fantastic supporters who make it all worthwhile.”
The club have also announced their admission prices for the 2012 campaign. Adults will be priced at 12. Concession Tickets will also be 12 with a free programme and children aged 15 and under will be admitted free of charge. Explaining the changes co-promoter Chris Louis said, “We’ve had to increase the Adult prices to help cover the cost of the VAT we now have to pay after our success last year. We appreciate times are tough at the moment so by not charging for youngsters to get in, a family of four will actually save money. We are confident that speedway at West Row is still a great value day out.”
