Newly-promoted Ryman Premier side Needham Market have swooped to sign Bury Town winger Jordan Patrick on a two-year contract.

The winger, who can play on both flanks and also in attack, scored three times in 23 games for the relegated Blues, who swapped places with the Marketmen at the end of last season.

Patrick joins former Colchester United stalwart Karl Duguid, who has arrived at Bloomfields in a player-coach capacity and manager Mark Morsley is confident he has made a good signing in the former Cambridge United youth player.

“He ticks the box in terms of being the right age and he was one of Bury’s better players last season,” said the former AFC Sudbury and Leiston boss.

“We looked at him last season to be fair but he stayed with Bury and helped them try and stay up, which was commendable.

“Jordan will get supporters on their feet, he’s a bit similar to Luke Ingram, he is very quick and suits our style of play.

“He is verstatile too and can play on either flank, in hole behind the striker and also up front.”

Patrick’s ability to fill a number of attacking roles could be crucial with Morsley having lost the services of striker Michael Brothers.

The experienced frontman has decided to take on a player-coach role at Brantham, having enjoyed a strong end to last season with Needham.

“We are looking at potential strikers to come in, while Jordan can play up top if needed,” said Morsley, who will hope last season’s leading scorer Sam Newson can continue to find the net at a higher level.

“Karl Duguid also played a lot of football up front in the latter stages of his career at Colchester United and he offers us something a bit different.

“We played 3-4-3 last season but I may look to change our style of play anyway and look to be more solid.”

Duguid’s arrives at Bloomfields having had spells at Stanway Rovers and Welling last season, and the 37-year-old still has plenty to offer according to Morsley.

“I am very much looking forward to working with Karl,” added the Needham boss.

“It was a huge loss losing Ian Westlake at the end of last season, while Lee Norfolk, who was with me at Leiston, has also left the coaching staff, which was a blow.

“But Karl was assistant manager at Colchester not too long ago and while he is fit as a fiddle and still capable of playing, he also gives us something different alongside a very good coach in Steve Foley.”
