Needham Market boss Mark Morsley has placed striker Jamie Guy on the transfer list.

Needham Market boss Mark Morsley has placed striker Jamie Guy on the transfer list.

The 26-year-old signed a two-year deal at the start of the season but things haven’t worked out as hoped for both player and manager.

Guy, who has scored goals in the Championship, broke his leg badly at Braintree Town, but has come back well – and Needham signed him at the start of the campaign.

“There has been no bust up or anything like that,” Morsley said.

“It’s more to do with the way we play and our style which is not always suiting Jamie.

“I can see it and so can he. At the end of the day he’s a quality player who wants to play and it makes sense for both parties for him to find a club he can play regularly for.”

Needham travel to Wroxham in Ryman North on New Year’s Day.

The recent rain in East Anglia mean pitches are very wet and soggy.

Many of the Boxing Day clashes only just beat the weather, so it would be best to check any New Year’s Day game you are going to before travelling.

There is little doubt the big game of New Year’s Day is at Cressing Road, where Braintree entertain Skrill Premier leaders Cambridge United (3pm).

Only six days ago, United beat Braintree 1-0 at the Abbey Stadium, but since then the U’s have dropped points at Nuneaton, while Iron easily beat Tamworth.

In Skrill South, Chelmsford City will be looking to further steer themselves away from the drop zone when they take on sixth-placed Bishop’s Stortford at Woodside Park.

The Clarets remain unbeaten under the stewardship of new management team Mark Hawkes and Steve Smith.

In-form Bury Town and Leiston clash at Ram Meadow (3pm) in a fixture that is important to both clubs for different reasons.

Richard Wilkins’ Bury side are on a fine run of form and victory for them will push them ever-closer to the play-off places.

Steve Ball on the other hand will want to arrest the defeats Leiston suffered over the Christmas period at home to Lowestoft and at Hendon.

The last league defeat AFC Sudbury suffered was at the end of October and David Batch’s side continue to show decent form.

On New Year’s Day they entertain Dereham at the MEL Group Stadium, 3pm.

Witham suffered their heaviest defeat of the season at Soham Town Rangers on Boxing Day, losing 5-2.

For boss Gary Kimble, it was the Spa Road team’s first defeat in 10.

On New Year’s Day Witham are at home to Barkingside (1pm). Heybridge entertain Soham, while Maldon & Tiptree travel to Burnham Ramblers (1pm.)
