William Buick makes a dash from Glorious Goodwood this afternoon to take four rides, all with good chances, at tonight’s meeting on the July course at Newmarket.

The young Newmarket-based jockey rides for his boss, trainer John Gosden, in the 6.25pm maiden for two-year-olds when Swot makes his debut.

Six of the nine runners are newcomers and Gosden’s colt tackles Longside, a debutant from Charlie Hills’ stable under James Doyle and Sean Levey on Richard Hannon’s Sawaahel.

The feature race sees just three go to post at 7pm for the AMP Silver Jubilee Novice stakes for two-year-olds over seven furlongs.

Buick rides Godolphin’s Zephuros trained by Charlie Appleby. Zephuros won on debut at Newmarket, beating Lexington Times, trained by Hannon. That colt re-opposes and since finishing behind the Godolphin runner, has won at Newmarket on July 11, albeit on soft ground as opposed to tonight’s good to firm conditions.

The trio contesting the feature is completed by Prince Gagarin, Ryan Moore riding for Ed Dunlop.

Buick is on another Gosden trained newcomer called Rectitude in the 8pm maiden fillies’ event. However, a more likely winner is the William Haggas trained Cloud Line, second at Newmarket on July 19 after finishing second also at Newcastle in June.

Godolphin’s Spellbind, trained by Appleby and ridden by Martin Lane, is also a contender having been third of 15 on debut at Newmarket at the end of May.

The 8.30pm finale sees Buick riding Hills’ three-year-old colt Sahra Al Khadra who after winning at Warwick in May has finished second three times, at Doncaster, Newmarket and Bath.

Main rivals are Evident under Moore and last time out winner Kalon Bruma, Jimmy Quinn riding for Peter Charalmbous on a three-year-old filly successful at Leicester a week ago.

Tonight’s meetings gets under way at 5.20pm with a six-furlong handicap for three-year-old in which likely market leader is the Nick Littmoden trained Poetic Choice, a winner last time out at Salisbury.

Moonspring, a four-time winner on the all-weather for trainer Robert Cowell, and Autumns Blush, Shane Kelly riding for Jeremy Noseda, rate the dangers.

Nine go in the 12-furlong handicap at 5.50pm in which Daydreamer, Martin Harley for Haggas, is the strong fancy, having won at Lingfield twice in his last three outings.

Biggest field is the 12-runner 7.30pm handicap featuring Athletic, second at the course on Friday after a previous win there for Danny Brock and trainer Andrew Reid.
