MILDENHALL Fen Tigers star Stefan Nielsen has been named the club’s Rider of the Year.

It crowns a remarkable year for the eighteen-year-old, who was part of the Midenhall Grand Slam winning team, as well as becoming British Under-19 Champion and finishing the season as Bronze Helmet holder.

Speaking to a packed audience at the club’s End of Season awards night Nielsen said, “It’s been a year I’ll never forget and being part of a team that’s won everything is amazing. The supporters are fantastic and I am very proud they have voted me Rider of the Year.”

Nielsen also picked up a number of other awards from individual supporters. Teenage reserves Josh Bates and Nathan Stoneman were both named Rookie of the Year.

And there was a special fans’ award given to Jason Garrity who played a major part in Mildenhall’s historic success, after stepping in to cover for the injured Cameron Heeps. After being presented with trophies and 360 collected by supporters he said, “I can’t thank you all enough for what you’ve done for me and for making me feel so at home. I don’t have any sponsors at the moment so I’ll be using the money to buy a new carburettor for next season.”

Meanwhile, Mildenhall co-promoter Chris Louis said the club is hoping to start building the 2013 team over the next couple of weeks. “As people saw we already have names in mind for next season. We now have to sit down and get deals and contracts finalised, which we will be doing as quickly as we can.”
