Midfielder Jerome Thomas has left Ipswich Town without earning a permanent contract, having trained with the club for the last week.
The former Arsenal, West Brom and Crystal Palace man has been a free agent since leaving Selhurst Park in the summer, but has not done enough to earn a deal at Portman Road.
Given he’s not contracted to any other club, McCarthy would be able to make a move for the 32-year-old outside the transfer window, if he wanted to bring him in.
“I won’t be doing anything with him at the moment, he’s a free agent anyway, so if there’s anything I need to do (I can do it outside the window),” McCarthy said.
“He’s gone home.”
