TALKS about a settlement to terminate Finidi George's contract are still ongoing. Ipswich Town chairman David Sheepshanks last night denied a fresh agreement had been reached further to the settlement offer which was revealed by the EADT in January, writes Derek Davis.

George's agent Winny Haartrecht claimed the former Ajax forward had accepted a new settlement by the club but it was subsequently withdrawn by the administrators.

Sheepshanks said: "Negotiations have been stop-start between the club and the player's agent for some time now and a generous offer of settlement was made in January but no agreement was reached.

"Discussions reopened post administration involving Finidi's agent, myself and the administrator, and although we were close to agreement no settlement was finalised.

"Our current financial status dictates our approach as to what can and can't be done."

The Nigerian has been in Spain with his girlfriend Marea Jose as she gave birth to their son Kavin. George is recovering from a minor hip injury and may be named in the reserves to play Wimbledon next week.
