COLCHESTER United boss Geraint Williams has warned that there will be “no quick fix” to the U's current plight at the foot of the Championship.

The Essex club stay rooted to the bottom, despite earning a point against visiting Southampton thanks to Clive Platt's 47th minute equaliser in today's Layer Road clash.

Platt's seventh goal of the season cancelled out Jhon Viafara's 20th minute opener, and both sides could then have snatched victory in a pulsating last few minutes. Dean Gerken produced two stupendous saves to preserve a point for the hosts at the death.

“It's not going to come easy. We must keep working and working at it,” insisted Williams last night.

“Colchester United are not going to suddenly start winning games 4-0 or 5-0. We're not going to suddenly turn it around. It's going to happen bit by bit.

“The saves that Dean (Gerken) made at the end need to happen for us to pull clear of the bottom three. There is no quick fix.

“We have to keep being positive. We must learn from the negatives, but also not lose sight of the positives.

“My players have picked up a lot of bumps and bruises, yet these things are going to happen. It's not down to individuals. It's down to togetherness,” added Williams.
