Ramadan swopped with the winner early in the second half against a Cogenhoe side (United Counties League Premier) who had won at Kirkley & Pakefield in the previous round.

Bury started brightly, with home keeper Bradley Lashley only just managing to claw away Ryan Jolland’s goalbound swirling cross on two minutes, but they were far from convincing as the first half wore on.

Jolland turned creator by pumping a free-kick to the far post on 18 minutes. Ollie Hughes headed back into the danger zone, but his strike-force partner Cemal Ramadan, at full stretch, could not keep his own header down as it looped over bar.

It was actually Cogenhoe who had the best chance of the first period, Carter Price ballooning a shot over the bar with just keeper Joseph Rose to beat on 40 minutes.

Just three minutes later and The Cooks were reduced to 10 men, Taylor Orosz flashed a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Max Maughn.

Baris Altintop, making his competitive debut for Bury following his move from AFC Sudbury, drilled wide in the 44th minute as the score remained goalless at the break.

The Blues suffered a setback at the start of the second half, with Joe White forced off through injury in the 53rd minute.

However, Ramadan swooped with the opener on the hour mark, gleefully heading home from a central position as a throw-in had been headed on.

There was concern when Bury keeper Joseph Rose was caught late by a lunge from Rico Alexander, while smothering a loose ball. Rose was only able to continue after his head injury was patched up.

Bury came so close to adding a second goal in the 87th minute. Hughes intercepted a woeful back pace by Price and looked sure to score, only for keeper Lashley to get a touch as the ball rolled agoninsingly wide of the far upright.

There were 14 minutes of injury-time, due to the injuries to White and Rose, but Bury held on to reach the next round.
