Go on, Marcus - surprise me. Splash out before the transfer window slams shut and give all of us long-suffering Town fans something to set our pulses racing. How about it, eh? No, I thought not..., writes Northstander Terry Hunt.

Saturday’s game was a frustrating microcosm of our situation. Everyone ran around, gave their all, “put in a shift.” But Wolves cruised it. They didn’t have to get out of second gear. If it hadn’t been for Bart, the score could have been embarrassing.

We are absolutely miles off the pace. What we witnessed at Portman Road on Saturday was the difference between trying to get by on free transfers, loans and bargain buys, and investing tens of millions.

But what a return Wolves will enjoy! What’s the reward for reaching the Land of Milk and Honey these days? Heading towards £200 million, is it?

But you have to gamble serious cash, and our owner won’t do that. Hence, we are a club going precisely nowhere fast.

I don’t envy the back room staff at Portman Road as they prepare their season ticket marketing campaign, which can’t be too far off.

It looks like they’ll have to start it while there’s still uncertainty over whether McCarthy will go or stay. Presumably that saga won’t be resolved until after the final game of this campaign.

Just a hopefully helpful suggestion as Mr. Evans, Mr. Milne and co. consider their options. Please do not, under ANY circumstances, put ANY prices up.

Hopefully you’ve learned that lesson from what happened last year. We now have a half-empty stadium with an often library-like atmosphere. Cause and effect, I believe it’s called.

And so, the season drifts on to two games against struggling teams in Sunderland and. Burton. At least we’re not in their situation, I suppose. Thankful for small mercies, as they say.

Then it’s off to Carrow Road for the remaining highlight of the campaign - the thrilling battle for 12th place. Who said things were dull?
