JAMES Peasey of Woodbridge scored one of the best wins of his career when he overcame Simon Harrison of Thorpeness on the final green in the quarter-final of the Suffolk PGA match play championship at Thorpeness yesterday.

Peasey seemed in control when two up with five to play. Then Harrison, runner-up in the PGA East Region Order of Merit last year, eagled the par-five 14th and birdied the 15th to go all square.

Peasey produced a long putt to halve in par at the 16th and found another splendid putt to match Harrison's birdie at the 17th.

It was all square on the last tee. Harrison took his driver and his ball ended in lush long grass to the right so that he could only chip out sideways. Peasey also took a driver. He stayed on the fairway, and went on to secure the par he needed to set up a semi-final against Andrew Tokley of Stoke by Nayland today.

Tokley won a battle-royal with Tim Cooper of Newton Green by a single hole in the first round. A highlight was when he landed a five-iron approach shot at the 13th to within a foot for a conceded birdie. He was always ahead against Kelvin Vince in the afternoon. Vince had earlier beaten Andrew Robinson (Felixstowe Ferry).

The other semi-final will be between Shane Warren of the Suffolk Golf and Water Park and Kevin Earp of Bury Golf Range.

Warren, who only knew he was playing late on Sunday night after Simon Dainty withdrew with a back injury, won a superb quarter-final tussle with Alastair Spink on the last green. In the morning Spink had knocked out Suffolk's new stroke play champion Andrew Collison of Bungay while Warren beat the holder, Paul Bate of Brett Vale.
