BRAINTREE Town boss George Borg left his future at the Essex club in doubt last night after his hard-working side's narrow defeat in the Nationwide Conference South play-off final.

Following the 1-0 defeat to Salisbury City Borg said: “I don't think this club would have been ready for it [promotion]. Maybe we have come too far too quickly.”

Speaking on speculation surrounding him and the AFC Wimbledon job, Borg added: “I'm going to review my situation here in the next four days. I hope I am here next season and I am not interested in other jobs but I am not happy with certain things that have gone on this week.

“I just want this club to be looked after the way it should be. We deserve a lot better off the park than we achieved this week.”

Refusing to say any more on these off-the-field problems, Borg paid tribute to his side.

He said: “I'm proud of every one of our players, I thought they were brilliant. We always thought one goal would win it for either side. We gave it a great go but it wasn't to be our day.”
