Numerous parkruns up and down the country, including many in Suffolk and Essex, marked 70 years of the NHS with a big celebration on Saturday.

Many runners turned up in fancy-dress to mark the occasion, and Suffolk’s ‘youngest’ parkrun, at Felixstowe, was one of those to join in the celebrations at the 10th staging of the event.

Framlingham Flyers enjoyed a one-to-three at the head of the field on a fine morning when 255 runners, joggers and walkers completed the weekly 5K run on the promenade.

Adam Howlett was first home in a personal best time (for the course) of 17mins 15secs, followed by club-mates Jim Last (17:22) and Scott Manning (17:52).

Glynn Thomas, an over-50 veteran from Ipswich JAFFA, was fourth finisher in 19:16, while Neal Hardwick notched a PB of 19:31 in fifth spot.

Tamara Jordan, of Stowmarket Striders, was the first female finisher and was in fact seventh overall in a swift time of 19:48.Rebecca Jordan was second with 22:29, and Victoria Breadman, from Felixstowe Road Runners, was third lady in a PB of 22:54. Over-55 veteran Marion Parker, also of Felixstowe RR, was fourth.
