Summer sunshine was the order of the day for parkruns across our region, as local runners, joggers and walkers warmed-up for the impending Royal Wedding and the FA Cup Final with their weekly 5K challenge.

Haverhill parkrun, established only on March 10 of this year, attracted a field of 93 to the Puddlebrook Playing Fields for the 11th staging of the event on Saturday morning.

Adam Howlett, a regular top-three finisher on Suffolk roads in competitive races, was first home on Saturday in a swift time of 17 minutes, 30 seconds. It was Howlett’s 185th parkrun, and he had the satisfaction of smashing the course record in the process.

Howlett, of Framlingham Flyers, hacked 12 seconds off the previous best, set by Haverhill RC’s Alex Smith two weeks earlier.

Likewise, the first female finisher, Nicki Davis, also posted a course record. She was third overall in 19:28, breaking the Walden Tri over-35 veteran’s own landmark of 20:33 from four weeks earlier.
