Owen delighted to be back at his beloved U’s

BRIAN Owen is delighted to be back at his beloved Colchester United.

U’s manager Joe Dunne today announced the return of veteran Owen, as the Essex club’s chief recruitment scout.

Owen, who played for the U’s from 1970 to 1973, re-joined the club in 1993 and served as a coach and scout until he departed in 2009.

He had most recently been working as a scout for former Colchester boss Phil Parkinson at League Two club Bradford City.

“It seems that the club cannot get rid of me!” enthused Owen.

“I first came to Colchester in 1970. It took me by a little bit of a surprise, getting the call from Joe to come back to Colchester.

“I was sort of retired, was doing a bit of work for Bradford and some work from home, but I missed not being in football,” added Owen.

Now aged 68, Middlesex-born Owen used to be the physio at Colchester, before going on to give great service as a coach and a scout. Earlier in his career, he was also a coach at Ipswich.

He helped out the likes of former U’s managers George Burley and Parkinson at the start of their managerial careers, and will now be hoping to do the same for Dunne.
