Pelicans III 1 Ipswich IV 4

Ipswich travelled in the sure and certain knowledge that promotion had been gained the week before and that one point was needed to be crowned champions.

Pelicans were at full strength and hoping an upset would boost their promotion chances. The first half was dominated by the whistle as Ipswich committed foul after foul. One inappropriate comment from Sebborn saw him dismissed, but in his absence Scarff knocked in a loose ball for Ipswich to take the lead.

The half time team talk focused on the need to take on the opposition rather than the umpires. The second goal soon followed with two unique moments involved. First Williams dribbled all the way from the half way line to the by-line and won a hotly contested short corner and almost more amazingly Sebborn drag flicked the corner home.

Ipswich stepped up a gear and soon converted a third via Godfrey and a fourth via another Sebborn short corner.

Scarff replaced the veteran Whetton at the back and Pelicans scored a late consolation goal following an exquisite Scarff pass to their best player.

But 4-1 secured the championship and resulted in Ipswich being the first championship winners in the whole of the East League.

With sixteen wins out of 16 and four games to go, Ipswich IV entertain Cranes at Henley Road next week. It could be a tough match as Cranes showed good form in beating second placed North Walsham on Saturday.
